Clare Curtin, PhD

Dr. Clare Curtin has been an occupational therapist since 1978.  She has worked in a children’s hospital, a pediatric oncology out-patient clinic, a children’s psychiatric unit, a day treatment program, psychiatric hospitals, a nursing home, and over 30 schools. Dr. Curtin also completed intensive mediation training at the Center for Dispute Resolution and has lectured on “Ways to Avoid Power Struggles” to different community and educational groups.

In 1995, she completed her dissertation, Collaborative Treatment Planning with Children, and received her PhD in Educational Psychology. When she retired after 17 years as a school OT for Jefferson County Public Schools, she finished writing her Occupational Therapy textbook entitled Strategies for Collaborating with Children: Creating Partnerships in Occupational Therapy and Research. Her focus now is on presenting and writing about this positive, strengths-based, and client-centered approach.
