People with disabilities are 4-7 times more likely to be victims of sexual abuse.  Those with more significant physical, cognitive, and/or communication impairments are at greatest risk.  OTs can play a unique and extremely important role in life-long risk reduction for the students/clients we serve; whether in schools, group-homes, in-home settings, etc. through our focus on facilitating independence, training support staff, facilitating self-awareness and self-advocacy, and other strategies.
